Konstantinos Kartalis

Member of the si-Cluster Steering Board, Professor and Director of the Department of Environmental Physics – Division of Physics.

Professor and Director of the Department of Environmental Physics – Division of Physics. Holds PhD from the Department of Atmospheric and Space Sciences of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and Master in Aerospace Engineering from the same University. He has concluded a large number of research projects in the field of Earth Observation, and in particular for applications related to the urban and natural environment and to the study of climate change and extreme weather events. He participates since 2005, to the DRAGON program which consists a research cooperation between ESA and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China. During the period 2018-2020 he is one the principal investigators for the project “Earth Observation Based Urban Services for Smart Cities and Sustainable Urbanization”. He has taught in several advanced training sessions of ESA in thematic areas related to thermal remote sensing and its application for the study of the thermal environment in urban areas.

Has acted as elected vice president of the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO, elected member of the Scientific Committee and member of the Management Board of the European Environment Agency, member of the Steering Committee of the Centre for Earth Observation (JRC/Ispra) and member of thematic groups of DG Research on earth observation and its applications. Finally he has acted a President of the Environment Committee of the Parliament of Greece.

Has published 91 research papers in international peer reviewed scientific journals.

Member of the Environment Council of ΕΤVΑ-Industrial Parks.
